Protecting Holland Creek for generations to come
A community-led society restoring forests, creeks, and habitat in Ladysmith.
Friends of Holland Creek Society is a registered non-profit based in Ladysmith, BC, working toward the long-term protection and restoration of Holland Creek.
Local residents first formed Friends of Holland Creek in 1996 to build the Holland Creek Trail. After the trail was completed, the group disbanded, then reunited in 2002 to successfully advocate for a larger buffer zone between the park and nearby development.
In 2024, the Society was re-established to address growing pressures from urban expansion, climate change, invasive species, and landscape fragmentation, and to help ensure Holland Creek remains healthy for future generations.
What we do
We are committed to protecting the biodiversity of Holland Creek Park, its watershed, and connected areas so that current and future generations can experience the benefits of mature forests and healthy riparian ecosystems in their community.
Habitat Restoration
We organize and support hands-on restoration work, including invasive species removal, native planting, and habitat enhancement along the creek and surrounding areas.
Community Events
From volunteer work parties to guided walks and educational events, we aim to create opportunities for the community to connect with the creek and with each other.
Stewardship & Advocacy
We work with partners and local governments to promote responsible land use, protect sensitive areas, and support science-based stewardship of the watershed.
Where we work
Holland Creek Park is a 76-hectare linear park within the Town of Ladysmith and sits at the base of the 30 km² Holland Creek watershed.
The park connects surrounding forests, riparian areas, neighbourhoods, and trail systems. Our work focuses not only on the park itself, but also on the buffer zones, nearby lands, and community spaces that influence the overall health of the watershed.
By improving habitat connectivity and watershed resilience, we help protect clean water, native plants, wildlife, and salmon habitat.
